Field’s shop

‘Mr Field owned the corner, owned the shop. Wonderful man, and I can remember as teenagers, when there was a group of about six of us in our mid teens, all strapping young lads playing football, and close on six feet. Jack was about four feet nothing. But a lovely man, and he was coming up the opposite way in a long passageway that went down the middle of Field’s shop. And all us six or seven young lads were marching down the other way, and Jack came up and looked us up and down and said “Look out boys, or I’ll tread on you!”‘
