Mersey Yacht Club House

‘That was called the Downbeat Club. Doug Sheehan, who was a member of that band, still lives in Devonport, still plays trumpet. It was a real Dixieland jazz. This must have been in the 60s, it was only a couple of dollars to get in the door. And of course we didn’t serve any alcohol, we used to serve cigarettes singly… and we used to serve coke and cold drinks. But it’s quite interesting that all these people came, and alcohol was never a problem.’
