The tidal.24 festival AIR program aims to support Tasmanian artists to develop their practice, while connecting with the public and the theme of ‘tidal’ in Devonport during the tidal.24 festival.

Cheryl Rose makes multi-media work deeply connected to her culture and country.

Cheryl recently took part in MY COUNTRY: The Country Road + NGV First Nations Commissions, mentored by Denise Robinson. She exhibited in TERMS at Devonport Regional Gallery in 2023 and the Tasmanian Museum and Art gallery’s taypani milaythina-tu; Return to Country in 2022 and has been involved in a range of Public art commissions and workshops in the North West.

The Pataway (Burnie) based artist runs painting, drawing and printmaking workshops for community, including through the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre.

During the residency

Throughout the residency, Cheryl will create intimate drawn images on hand dyed kozo paper that include fragments of country and place.

Gallery visitors are welcome to connect with Cheryl’s processes and practice in the Creative Space, and invited to contribute to a collaborative artwork on kozo paper during Open Studio times.

Hear from Cheryl about her practice and explore a range of mark making techniques including drawing, printmaking and frottage.
Create your own work and contribute to a collaborative artwork on kozo paper for exhibition in the Avenue Exhibition Space.Session includes a half hour break.
