EXTRACTS
Drawing language from landscape
extract /ĭk-străkt′/
to get, pull, or draw out, usually with special effort, skill, or force despite resistance Extracts is an exhibition of works developed from spontaneously collected rocks and objects found while walking and working in the garden and bushland around my home just outside nipaluna/Hobart. The light and atmosphere have been used as a focus to draw a visceral language and a new narrative from forms embedded in and retrieved from the ground there. The works are a reflection on our relationship to place and time and also draws inspiration from my 2025 Glover Country Residency at Patterdale in northern Tasmania. The two places share similar ecological and geological histories inherent in the dry sclerophyll bushland and dolerite outcrops common to both locations. Living and gardening in a rocky landscape and experiencing the weather and light has profoundly influenced my art practice and how I see the world around me.
This exhibition is part of our 2026 Little Gallery Emerging Artist Program.
