In Lecture: Internationally acclaimed artist Helen Hiebert

Town Hall Theatre

In conjunction with Paper on Skin™ Devonport Regional Gallery is presenting In Lecture with internationally recognized paper and book artist Helen Hiebert.

This is a free event. RSVP to artgallery@devonport.tas.gov.au

Hiebert  will talk about her unexpected foray into writing how-to books, her research into the various ways that paper can transform from two into three dimensions, how her artist’s books have landed in collections around the world, and her community installations, ranging from a giant paper dress about motherhood, to a huge paper lantern that invites us to think about we can spread our own light into our communities.

Hiebert is a Colorado artist who constructs installations, sculptures, films, artists’ books and works in paper using handmade paper as her primary medium. She teaches, lectures and exhibits her work internationally and online, and is the author of the several how-to books about papermaking and papercrafts. Helen has an extensive network of paper colleagues around the world and her interest in how things are made (from paper) keeps her up-to-date on current paper trends, which she writes about in her weekly blog called The Sunday Paper. She interviews papermakers and paper artists on her podcast Paper Talk, and she holds an annual paper retreat and papermaking master classes in her Red Cliff, Colorado studio.

Helen is guest judge for the Awagami Handmade paper award at the Paper on Skin™ Gala and will do a book-signing at the Devonport Bookshop at 11am on 21 September.

As part of the Paper on Skin™ suite of activities Helen is conducting three days of workshops.
The workshops are sold out but there is a waiting list for anyone wanting to register their interest
