The Ultimate Pop-Up Junkyard Playground – Devonport 2050

The Ultimate Pop-Up Junkyard Playground-Devonport 2050 invites 7-16 year olds to design and build their version of Devonport 2050. What will the future city look like, will it float across the Strait, fly into space or submerge beneath the earth? They lead the way in answering these questions.

This is a parent/guardian free zone (unless a participant has special needs)*. Participants must be signed in by parent/guardian and then head to the tool training and test site. Here they will be shown how to safely use cordless drills, saws and hammers. Upon passing their test they will receive a builders licence, head to the architecture studio and when ready they enter the building site.

Scaffolded by our team of facilitators they will have access to reclaimed building materials, pallets and an assortment of clean reusable materials to be build what they imagine Devonport may look like in 2050. No idea is too crazy, this is their vision and their world.

*Parents/guardians, family and community members are welcome to watch from the sidelines as this world unfolds. Or bring along a picnic lunch, hang out in Market Square where young children (supervised by parents/guardians) can create installations from reclaimed cardboard and various art materials.
