Waves on Waves

Devonport Regional Gallery

tidal.24 festival

Embark on the Tall Ship Julie Burgess with Sea Hags Sisters Akousmatica who will navigate ideas and explore maritime communication techniques through live broadcast.

Connect by radio
Get seasick? Under 18 years of age? You can still connect with the live broadcast on your free radio. Tune into 104.1 fm (MHz) on one of our free radios you can keep as a special Sea Hag gift. It will be fun to chase the ephemeral signal from the shore as the ship moves down the river. Most of the performance will be between 6.40-7.10pm and 7.20-8.50pm.

The work by Sisters Akousmatica is an experimental improvised sound collage. Expect stories, music, learning and strange sounds that fade in and out, as the signal finds its way through the airwaves and the Tall Ship Julie Burgess moves down the river.

Collect your free radio:
  1. 12 – 2pm from the paranaple arts centre
  2. 4.30 – 4.45pm after stacked artist panel talking tidal
  3. 6 – 6.30pm from Reg Hope Park in East Devonport

Radio queens Sisters Akousmatica (Phillipa Stafford and Julia Drouhin) promote expanded radio projects that explore the radical possibilities of transmission since 2016. They create curatorial, artistic and written projects which are concerned with collective radio practices, auditory-spatial exploration and the potential of emergent art forms to support and promote socio-cultural and gender minorities in the field of sound arts.

Sisters Akousmatica will also be a part of the panel talk talking tidal
