Unremarkable by Ariel Pascoe

During my time as an environmental consultant between 2019 and 2025, I worked on a wide range of projects, often finding myself in completely out of the way places. Many jobs would require me to photograph the most mundane scenes, and on returning to my photos, I would often forget why I had a photo of an old landline phone, or where that particular toilet block was. After a while, my phone became filled with these disembodied, unremarkable scenes, which were completely out of context once the project was over and forgotten about. 

Unremarkable started as a project to paint these scenes, but the more I painted them, the more I saw life as a series of “unremarkable scenes,” and so, the project grew. Forget the perfection and carefully curated moments of the online world, Unremarkable showcases an imperfect and random reality.
