Bea Maddock is Tasmania’s most highly regarded contemporary artist, known for her innovative printmaking and her masterwork, TERRA SPIRITUS…with a darker shade of pale, 1993-98. The Devonport Regional Gallery commissioned Bridget Arkless to curate an exhibition based on a little known, yet important work by Bea Maddock titled Leaving a Mountain. The eight-panelled work was created over the summer of 1992-93. It was purchased by the Devonport City Council in late 1993. ‘Bea Maddock’s Leaving a Mountain’ included loans from the Collection of the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery, Launceston of working drawings created on site at Mt Moliagul, in north western Victoria.

Mount Moliagul II, March 1990, on site Rheola Road, Victoria, pastel and graphite on textured sketchpad paper, 20.9 x 29.6 cm
