tidal.24 Festival Artist In Residence Application

The tidal.24 festival AIR program aims to support Tasmanian artists to develop their practice while connecting with the public and the theme of tidal in Devonport during the tidal.24 festival.

Conditions Of Entry

  • To enter, Artists must reside in Tasmania since 1 June 2022. 
  • Group collaborations will be accepted as long as all parties meet conditions of entry.  
  • Registration to Work with Vulnerable People required. 
  • Individual public liability insurance to cover $20 million or willing to obtain. 
  • Devonport City Council employees and their family members, as well as DCC Public Art Committee and DRG Advisory Committee members, are ineligible to enter the Program. 
  • Completed entry form by 5.00pm on Sunday 6 October 2024. 

About the residency

The residency takes place in the Devonport Regional Gallery during the tidal.24 festival, which coincides with the biennial tidal City of Devonport Tasmanian Art Award Exhibition. The festival and award connect the public with the theme of ‘tidal’ and its many contemporary interpretations; personal, political, natural or cultural. 

The tidal.24 festival AIR program supports the work of Tasmanian visual artists who:  

  • Demonstrate experimentation in fine arts. 
  • Engage with critical thinking about their practice. 
  • Demonstrate an interest in community engagement or social practice. 

 

Residency duration: Tuesday 28 January to Saturday 8 February 2025 

Applications open: Thursday 29 August

Applications close: Sunday 6 October 2024. 

The residency includes:

  • 2 weeks in the Devonport Regional Gallery’s Creative Space and Avenue Exhibition Space, situated in the paranaple arts centre in the heart of Devonport. 
  • A fee of $7,000. 
  • Access to the Devonport City Council Permanent Collection (by negotiation). 
  • Gallery support with running Public Programs. 
  • Gallery support with installation of artworks as negotiated. 

The Artist agrees to:

  • Actively engage with their practice in the Creative Space, a community workshop space in Devonport Regional Gallery in the paranaple arts centre. 
  • Have open studio times, welcoming community engagement. Dates and times to be negotiated. 
  • Share their practice in the Avenue Exhibition Space during the residency. 
  • Offer a Public Program on the final day of the residency – this could be a talk, workshop, exhibition or other event as negotiated. 
  • Be responsible for their materials, transport and accommodation.
